UFE and Pregnancy: “I Had UFE and 3 Months Later I Was Pregnant”

If you suffer from uterine fibroids and have been researching treatment options, you may have come across some misinformation. Uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) is an outpatient procedure that does not require surgery or a stay in the hospital and effectively gets rid of fibroids forever.  Recovery time is much shorter than after having surgery, and your reproductive options remain open.  You may have come across some outdated or incorrect information stating that UFE is not an option for women who wish to become pregnant, but Dr. Lipman has witnessed countless pregnancies among his patients after UFE and has an entire wall full of adorable pictures of babies that were born to these patients.

One of the biggest benefits is that it does not compromise the structure, strength, or functionality of the uterus like a myomectomy does. Did you know that after a woman undergoes a myomectomy, she must have a C-section if she were to ever get pregnant? This is because most doctors do not want to take the risk that their uterus will not be strong enough to function properly during a normal vaginal birth.

Successful Pregnancy After UFE: One of Many Patients Story

One patient who was treated with UFE at the Atlanta Fibroid Center wanted to tell her story to inspire other women and give them hope. After experiencing infertility, miscarriage, and heartache, she found joy after meeting Dr. Lipman and undergoing UFE!

This patient had been diagnosed with multiple fibroids and suffered from typical fibroid symptoms, including uncomfortable pressure in her abdomen and having to urinate frequently. Worst of all, she suffered four miscarriages because the fibroids continued to grow in her uterus. She did not wish to have surgery that would compromise or remove her uterus and became frustrated and disappointed every time she visited a doctor because they offered her no alternate options and she could not endure the heartache of losing another baby.

One day she was watching the television reality show “Real Housewives of Atlanta” and learned about Dr. John C. Lipman and the Atlanta Fibroid Center. She looked up his information on Google, and it changed her life forever! She set up an appointment, met Dr. Lipman, and learned all about the option of uterine fibroid embolization.

“I understood that this was what I needed. I did not want to have surgery, and my prayers were answered.”

She had the procedure done in March and very soon saw a big difference in her waistline and her symptoms. She was very pleased with her results: no more pain, no more heavy periods, the bloating was subsiding, and she was feeling better and had a lot more energy. She was able to return to work in just a week.

“I did not even understand what had happened. It was the best decision of my life. I feel like a different woman; I feel like a different person”.

UFE and Pregnancy: After 4 Miscarriages, She Finally Became a Mom

In May, about 3 months after her UFE procedure, she learned that she was pregnant again. At first, she was scared and didn’t know what to expect because of the previous miscarriages. Before her UFE procedure, eight fibroids had shown up on her scans, so she was nervous when it came time for her first ultrasound at the OB-GYN. She was elated when they told her they could only see two fibroids on the scan, and they were both about the size of a grape. With each subsequent ultrasound, the fibroids appeared smaller, first the size of a pea, and then finally disappeared completely. The fibroids rapidly diminished thanks to the UFE, allowing the baby to grow fully to 9.6 lbs! Her miracle baby was healthy and ready to come into the world.

“I knew for sure I would be able to carry a full-term baby. I was still under watch with the doctors, but everything was perfect.”

She became symptom-free and fibroid-free, and she became a mother!

“Life is too short to be miserable. I tell every woman: don’t give up, especially if you come here; it is just going to be a whole different outcome of life. You’ll be able to have a baby, so do what you are supposed to do and come to get the procedure done. I’m really glad that I came. I was pregnant because of the UFE procedure. It was safe, it was simple, and I am still in a better position in my life after I had the baby. I still feel good. If I had not come here, I would not be holding my daughter in my arms.”

If you suffer from uterine fibroids and are not ready to give up on the dream of having children, make an appointment with Dr. John Lipman or Dr. M. Ermentrout of the Atlanta Fibroid Center and learn more about UFE. It could be the happy ending you are looking for! There is a solution; you have options.
